Downe Hospital

The new-build acute hospital in Downpatrick incorporates dementia and psychiatric care; maternity services and operating theatres.

This project focused on providing bespoke anti-ligature furniture with an antimicrobial coating for the dementia and psychiatric wing.

Architect:

Scott Wilson Architects

Main Contractor:

McLaughlin and Harvey

Size:

500 doors

Specification:

The brief was to provide a robust coordinated range of ironmongery to suit a very busy hospital environment.

This was achieved with the ASSA modular range of lockcases and ASSA lever handles and DORMA cam action overhead door closers.

The specialist anti-ligature furniture was provided by FSB. Special roses had to be manufactured to allow the lever furniture to work in conjunction with the ASSA modular locks. MB Architectural also had to provide the furniture with an antimicrobial coating which had to be coloured to suit LRV ratings against the door face finish.

Access control solutions and all of the door automation were also specified and supplied.
